Step Up To Quality is a quality rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Children and Youth. SUTQ recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed preschool licensing and school age child care licensing health and safety regulations. Step Up To Quality program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children.
All Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Preschool Special Education (PSE) programs are mandated to participate in Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) and are required to achieve a rating of bronze, silver or gold.
Play Academy has been awarded a GOLD rating.
We use creative, high quality, developmentally appropriate High-Scope curriculum and teacher resources.The curriculum provides a balance of daily teacher-directed activities and child-directed activities. Our teacher’s goal is to make learning fun and help prepare your child for the future. Our curriculum provides a variety of activities that are designed to engage and develop parts of the brain throughout the following learning scope.We use all the quality products from High-Scope.
This facility participates in the federally funded Child Care Food Program, and meets USDA nutrition requirements for meals served.

Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is Ohio’s way of recognizing early learning programs that go above and beyond basic standards. It highlights schools that provide exceptional care and education for young children.
Since July 2024, SUTQ uses bronze, silver, and gold ratings to show program quality. Play Academy is proud to have earned the highest—GOLD—at all three locations, after previously holding a Five-Stars rating.
Universal Preschools (UPK) in Cuyahoga County set the gold standard for quality, only partnering with schools that have achieved a gold rating in Ohio’s SUTQ system. With highly qualified teachers, small class sizes, personalized learning, and scholarships available, UPK is dedicated to your child’s success.
Our Child Nutrition Program is federally funded and meets USDA standards. Play Academy’s chefs prepare delicious, nutritious meals and snacks, with menus designed for healthy habits and all dietary needs—so your child is always ready for new adventures. We provide 4-times-a-day free meals.
